Engine House Cottages, Wheal
Rose, Cornwall. These recently renovated, redundant mining buildings now provide well-appointed accommodation within the grounds of the owners Cornish Engine House. Wheal Rose is a quiet village in the heart of the tin mining area of Cornwall, and supermarket, theatre, local shops, leisure centre, chemist, newsagent, video rental, can all be found within a short drive of the Engine House. As you travel in the vicinity, you will see mine workings and engine houses in all the surrounding villages. Should further investigation into the mining history be tempting, the National Trust engines at Pool and a live steam engine at Levant are within easy reach. Truro museum is only 7 miles away and the mineral exhibition at the Camborne School of Mines is also very close. There is an endless choice of beaches and impressive coastline, walks and other attractions all within easy driving distances. The National Trust has a high concentration of properties including magnificent country houses, magnificent garden in lush wooded river valleys, and picturesque coastal land with walks to enjoy the scenery. As Cornwall has been a popular holiday destination for many years, there are numerous theme park attractions for children, if the weather is not so good. There is a rapidly expanding network of footpaths, and the coastal footpath can be walked completely around Cornwall, or accessed at any convenient cove or coastal village. The Minerals Tramways - a coast-to-coast walk - passes within 100 metres of the cottages. The list of things to do and see is far too vast to list here, but the one overriding factor is that everything is relatively close in this part of Cornwall, so you can enjoy a good day out without the annoyance of a long drive. The newest and most popular tourist attraction, The Eden Project, is open throughout the year, and less than hours drive away.
The Cottages: each has three bedrooms (two twin, one double), two bathrooms (one with a separate shower) and an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining room. One of the cottages has been designed for wheelchair access from the car park to an open plan living area and through to the ground floor twin bedroom and en-suite bathroom. The extensive grounds provide ample space for children to play in safety as the property is surrounded by a Cornish stone wall. Each cottage has a patio area with table, chairs and a barbeque. |
