Lanlas Farm is a 20 acre smallholding in the Upper Teifi Valley, two miles from the University town of Lampeter in West Wales. The owners are trying to realise their dream of breeding free-range rare breed pigs, and in June 2002 were rewarded with their first 3 piglings, ( yes, it really is a word! ) The piglings nudge along happily with the ducks, chickens and two pet lambs, not forgetting the seven cats and two dogs! Lanlas is on the southern edge of the Cambrian Mountains and as such offers fantastic walking country either from the door or from just a short drive away. Cors Caron RSPB reserve is only about 10 miles away and Llyn Brianne Reservoir is not much further - the drive up there is stunning, not unlike the Scottish Highlands. It
is a birdwatchers and wildlife paradise, having 8 acres of mixed woodland,
and in 2001 a pair of buzzards successfully reared a chick in the woods.
West Wales is probably most famous for it's flourishing population of Red
Kites, one or two of which can sometimes be seen gliding silently above
the farm. Other bird life that has been spotted on and around the farm
includes the pied flycatcher (which also nested last year), redstart, tree
creeper, great spotted woodpecker, bullfinch, chiff chaff, willow warbler,
nuthatch, swallow, siskin, golden plover, skylark, tawny owl, barn owl,
pied wagtail and grey wagtail.
Ty Cerbid, The Old Coach House still retains the original archways, which allowed the coaches access into the barn and these features are being retained in the conversion. The downstairs area is open plan with the same facilities as Y Stabl. Upstairs is a large open plan double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom as in Y Stabl. We have put a connecting door between the two cottages, so that a larger party will be able to rent both units together as one. In this case Ty Cerbyd will be able to sleep 4 people with a sofa bed in the living area of the ground floor. At the front of the units are small gardens and parking areas for cars. To the side of the units are utility areas with a washing machine and drying room, and a store of logs for use in the multi-fuel stoves. Well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement but please remember that this is an agricultural area and therefore sheep and cattle are abundant! We also have 2 collies, numerous cats, chickens and ducks wandering the yard who don't much like being chased! |
