The Anchorage, Isle of Skye, Inner
Hebrides. One of the most serene and dramatically beautiful islands in the world, Skye is now connected to the mainland by a road bridge making access easy and affordable. This must surely be a paradise on earth for people to enjoy wilderness beaches, dramatic scenery, wildlife, walking and pure peace; truly a "get away from real life" holiday, perfect in either summer or winter. Kyleakin is a charming village arranged around a small harbour housing working fishing boats and pleasure craft. The Viking Castle Moil is a prominent landmark, and the village has a post office / general store, a cafe and a couple of unpretentious restaurants. Just 5 minutes away you can enjoy more extensive facilities at Kyle of Lochalsh, or Broadford, 10 minutes away, or the capital of Skye, Portree, is about 30 minutes. Kyleakin has it's own Brightwater Interpretation Centre for children to enjoy a hands on educational experience, there are boat trips available to the home of Gavin Maxwell and a museum of his life's work. Red deer, sea otters living wild, whales and seals are just some of the extensive wildlife which you can enjoy in the area. Even if swimming is off the menu, there are a multitude of enjoyable experiences including castles, whale watching excursions and pleasure boat trips to the neighbouring islands of Raasay, Rhum and Eigg. For the more active, there are the challenging walks and climbs of the Cullin mountain range with fabulous waterfalls cascading down onto sandy beaches, or you can visit the the pretty village of Plockton on the mainland, famous for the filming of the TV. series "Hamish MacBeth". Boats are available locally for whale and seal watching, fast sea safari, glass bottom and self drive. The Anchorage: is an old cottage in what must surely be an unrivalled location on the foreshores of Loch Alsh, overlooking the heather clad mountains of the mainland beyond. All rooms overlook the sea, and the family of otters living close by can be seen frolicking in the crystal clear waters, and a gate leads from the garden right to the high tide line where you can fish or just watch the boats go by. The cottage has been furnished and equipped primarily for the owners use, and you will find everything you need for a relaxing holiday. It has on the ground floor a sitting room with solid fuel stove and sofa bed, a family room with TV. / Video, also with sofa bed and a fully equipped kitchen / breakfast room containing a washing machine / tumble dryer, dishwasher, Aga cooker and a microwave / convector cooker. The principal bedroom is on the first floor containing a double bed, as is the second bedroom with double divan, bunk beds and wash basin. There is a bathroom with bath, power shower, WC. and basin. Outside: There is a mature garden with furniture and parking for two cars, leading directly on to the foreshore-perfect for crabbing, fishing and boating. The waters are seldom rough and thus perfect for small craft and windsurfing, and larger vessels can be moored at the small harbour just 2 minutes away. |
