This
250-year-old cottage, with its own pretty cottage garden, boasts plenty of
character. One of a pair, it makes a romantic country retreat, complete with four-poster
bed, oak beams and wood-burning stove. It is situated in the Suffolk village of
Drinkstone about 1½ hours drive from London and is warm, cosy, comfortably furnished and
complete with oil-fired central heating. The beamed living room is equipped with colour
TV, video (small library) and music centre (with CD player) and features a wood-burning
stove in a huge inglenook fireplace. There are massive oak beams everywhere (mind your
head when you enter the master bedroom upstairs!). The dining room has French doors
opening onto a garden patio and the farmhouse-style kitchen is fully fitted with ceramic
hob, fitted double oven, microwave, fridge and automatic washing machine. The downstairs
bedroom will sleep 2 with a single bed and a Z-bed. Upstairs is the bathroom/toilet with a
corner bath and shower attachment. The beamed master bedroom has a gorgeous king-size
4-poster bed and a roof window to watch the stars at night! There is also a second TV.
The enclosed back garden extends to
approx 1/4 acre and overlooks open fields to the side and rear. It is laid mainly to lawn
with many mature trees and shrubs (apples and blackcurrants in abundance!) It has a gravel
patio by the French windows and a brick patio at the end of the garden which is perfect
for watching the sun go down on warm summer evenings. Garden furniture and a barbeque are
provided during the summer season. There is also a secure cycle shed.
There are many lovely villages to explore
nearby, including Woolpit with
its pretty colour-washed houses, and Lavenham and Long Melford with their half-timbered
buildings. The historic market town of Bury St Edmunds, with a multitude of shops,
restaurants and twice weekly market, lies close to hand. Newmarket,
for the races, and Thetford Forest Park, for outdoor activities, lie within half an hour.
