Isle
of Skye. Location: The Isle of Skye, largest of the Inner Hebrides, is made up of 5 peninsulas. Sleat (pronounced Slate) is the southern peninsula known as “The Garden of Skye” and benefits from the Gulf Stream. Skye is accessed via the Skye Bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh (25 miles), or Ferry via Fort William from Mallaig to Armadale (1 mile). Inverness is the nearest airport (approx 120 miles) with regular flights from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton. The Area: Described by Sir Walter Scott as “Lord of the Isles” Skye has great beauty and a rich history. It has Golden Eagles and in the seas around are Dolphins, Whales, Seals and Otters. A walkers/climbers paradise, Skye is home to the famous Black Cuillins. Other activities include, sailing, fishing, golfing, heavy horse trekking. Skye also boasts the famous Three Chimneys Restaurant, ranked 8th in Europe. If you do nothing else during your stay, make the drives to Elgol and Kylerhea and the Bella Jane boat trip to Loch Coruisk. Our house, ‘Dunneil’ is located in Ardvasar overlooking the Sound of Sleat with outstanding views of the mainland. Ardvasar (pronounced Ard-vaa-sar) is a pretty village with friendly people, a local shop, hotel, garage and post office (main supermarket in Broadford 16 miles). It is within walking distance of the award-winning Armadale Castle and there is a theatre at the Gaelic College (3 miles) Dunneil comprises: 2 double bedrooms, both en-suite. Single bedroom with separate toilet and hand basin. Large kitchen/living area, utility room, large study/office, beautiful upstairs sitting room 35ft x 19ft leading to balcony 7ft x 16ft. Oil CH, 2 fridges, 3 freezers, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, gas hob, double electric oven, wide screen + 3 TVs, satellite, video, DVD, CD, tape, radios, computer, piano, library. Dunneil is fully equipped - just walk in, unpack, and relax. There will be champagne, fruit and flowers to greet you plus fully stocked larder and freezers so you may live without shopping for several days. |
